The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, seeks a highly qualified and experienced leader to direct a newly formed unit on research and knowledge product development. The Director will lead the development and implementation of a research and tool-development agenda, grounded in the Institute’s work supporting school system reform and community organizing to improve school conditions and outcomes for all students, particularly in urban communities.
The Director will serve on the Institute’s Leadership Team and supervise a staff of nine researchers. Candidates must have a PhD and substantial experience conducting applied research in urban K12 education, utilizing qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as fundraising and supervisory experience. Knowledge of one or more of the following areas of the Institute’s work is essential: community organizing, districtwide reform, central office role in reform efforts, school-community partnerships, out-of-school time, and youth engagement.
Qualifications:
- PhD and experience conducting applied research in urban K12 education, utilizing qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Experience conducting policy research/analysis and using systems approach to education
- Knowledge of one or more of these areas: community organizing , districtwide reform, central office role in reform efforts, school-community partnerships, out-of-school time, youth engagement
- Experience in collaborative, participatory and action research methods, particularly involving school district and community constituencies
- Expertise in quantitative research methods, including experience in one or more of the following areas: secondary analysis of large data sets and methods for ensuring their accuracy and completeness (interpolation of missing variables, weighting, etc.), Hierarchical Linear Modeling or other nested models, survival analysis or other techniques for measuring change over time, psychometrics, survey design and sampling
- Strong analytic and writing skills leading to published work (reports, news articles, journal articles)
- Track record of successful fundraising and grant management
