The Urban Atlanta Coalition Compact (UACC), a collaboration of institutions of higher education and public schools, strove to promote educational equity by improving the schooling of economically disenfranchised children of color. The Coalition's strategies included strengthening teacher education by creating new pre-service programs, by increasing partnerships between schools and universities, and by providing professional development. UACC also worked with several public schools to create a bridge between parents and the school community and to improve instruction through the establishment of an Action Team for each school which would be responsible for developing and implementing a blueprint for educational reform. The work of the UACC is continued by the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence.
