The Boston University/Chelsea Partnership responded to the specific needs of Chelsea schools by focusing upon three key areas: professional and curricular development, intergenerational literacy, and fine arts. The Partnership strengthened its teaching and learning through workshops and seminars to help meet the demands of a rigorous curriculum. With a highly diverse and mobile student population, the Intergenerational Literacy Project provided English language instruction to children as well as their adult family members. The Partnership also restored comprehensive arts and music programs. Following the achievement of fundamental improvements in Chelsea schools, the Partnership applied its lessons learned to create a principal and teacher training program that emphasizes in-school skills and internships.
