Currently, we describe a smart system as one that:

aims to achieve a broad set of positive outcomes including, but not limited to academic achievement for students, families, and communities, and gathers evidence of progress

puts students, families, and communities at the center of the work

shares accountability across the system
>
has a systematic approach for bringing the work to scale
>
has strategies for managing power differentials, for example by creating meaningful roles for all stakeholders and shifting partner relations away from the standard grassroots-grasstops tensions
