At least rhetorically, Americans strongly support the twin goals of equity and excellence in education. But the evidence clearly shows that we are far from attaining either goal. What would it take to produce a truly equitable and excellent system for all young people? This issue of Voices in Urban Education offers five perspectives that challenge our way of thinking about equity and excellence.
