FIRST RESULTS FROM THE DISTRICT TASK FORCE
The Annenberg Institute's School Communities that Work Task Force has begun releasing the products from the research and design phase of its work. In these products, the Task Force presents recommendations and tools for districts and education-support organizations seeking to build "school communities that work" equitably and effectively for all their students. The first documents address principles of good teaching and learning, strategies for attracting and keeping the best personnel, budgeting for equitable distribution of funds, and building strong community supports for education. These products, along with several still in production, will together offer school communities an array of interrelated and practical ways to review supports for their schools and students.

PEER OBSERVATION: A Strategy for Building Professional Community
The Annenberg Institute has just released a video package designed to help teacher leaders, principals, and district administrators understand and use peer observations to build collaborative learning and reflective practice among adults in their schools and districts. The package offers suggestions for conducting video-discussion workshops on peer observation as well as guidelines for promoting peer observation practices. Two videotapes give viewers a close-up look at peer observation practices in seven very different schools.
