The Institute works with a variety of community organizations to build their capacity to become effective partners in smart education systems. The aim is to engage the range of local stakeholders — parents, youth, civic officials, businesses, community agencies, cultural institutions, etc. — in ensuring students’ academic success in an environment of equity and excellence.

Grounded in support for adult and youth community organizing in New York City, the Institute’s projects in Organizing and Engagement build understanding of education issues and develop capacity to advocate for and participate in efforts to improve local schools. The ultimate goal is an education system that engages the spectrum of resources in the community to provide quality learning experiences for all students in all the places where they learn.
