The Annenberg Institute facilitated a Central Office Review for Results and Equity (CORRE) with Chattanooga and Hamilton County in 2005 to identify high-priority issues in the district, examine quantitative and qualitative data about it, and develop plans and determine actions for improvement.

TENNESSEE SUPERINTENDENT TO JOIN
ANNENBERG INSTITUTE FOR SCHOOL REFORM
PROVIDENCE, R.I. Jesse Register, who is stepping down after nearly ten years as superintendent of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County, Tennessee, public schools, will join the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, beginning September 1.
Register will be the first Annenberg Senior Advisor for District Leadership, according to Warren Simmons, the executive director of AISR. The advisor position was made possible by a grant from the Annenberg Foundation.
"We are thrilled that Jesse will join us and contribute to our work in helping districts improve the way they support schools and students," Simmons said. "He has a great record of success in Hamilton County, and he will bring highly regarded expertise to the Annenberg Institute and its partners."
Register said his experience in working with AISR and other partner organizations has convinced him of the value that reform-support organizations, like AISR, bring to school districts. "One of the real lessons I've learned in Hamilton County is how positive that relationship with support organizations can be for a school system," he said. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to share the experiences I've had with a support organization, and I'm flattered to have the opportunity to work with AISR."
Register added that he will also help the Institute provide advice and consultation to "a new generation of school leaders."
Register joins AISR after a thirty-eight-year career as an English teacher, principal, district administrator, and superintendent in three districts in North Carolina and Tennessee. In 1996, he became the first superintendent appointed by the school board in the combined city-county district of Chattanooga/Hamilton County. Under his leadership, the district successfully completed the merger of the urban and suburban districts, restructured nine low-performing schools, and launched a major redesign of all the district's high schools.
The Annenberg Institute is a practice-centered policy-research and reform support organization focused on improving conditions and outcomes in urban schools, especially those serving disadvantaged children.
