WHAT WE'VE DONE WITH PORTLAND
The Annenberg Institute has worked with Portland to conduct both the Central Office Review for Results and Equity and the Teaching and Learning Review.

Central Office Review for Results and Equity
In July 2003, the Portland (Oregon) Public Schools (PPS) entered into partnership with the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University and the Portland Schools Foundation to conduct a Central Office Review for Results and Equity, or CORRE. CORRE is a four-phase process.

CORRE brings a team of leaders from the district, schools and the community together with staff from the Annenberg Institute in a joint-review process. By participating in CORRE, district leaders model a collaborative approach to the district's challenges and build ownership for potential solutions.

Teaching and Learning Review
At the request of Portland Public Schools Superintendent Vicki Phillips, the Teaching and Learning Review in Portland in 2006, focused on two areas where overall achievement is lowest and where gaps in student performance are most pronounced: literacy and mathematics at the secondary level.

The Teaching and Learning Review consists of a broadly defined process and a set of research, observation, and interview tools that enable community stakeholders to examine teaching and learning in their schools. The Review is customized to reflect the context and needs of the community in which it is being conducted. It intentionally builds the capacity of stakeholders to engage in inclusive and honest discussion about how effectively their public schools serve all their children.
