As one of its goals, the Annenberg Institute focuses on the theme of multidimensionality, which considers the broad range of outcomes and experiences that contribute to student success. To that end, EdInstruments is designed to support multidimensionality through providing information on education-relevant instruments that measure a variety of outcomes for children ages birth to 12th grade, parents, educators, administrators, and schools. The purpose of the repository is to aid researchers and educators in comparing and choosing the appropriate tool for their needs.
The field of education research demonstrates little agreement or consistency on how to define, measure, and organize constructs related to education. Annenberg’s EdInstruments pulls from a variety of sources (e.g., National Research Council, Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments, National Reading Panel) to put together a multidimensional repository that offers measures in the academic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, school, and parenting domains. Each domain contains several topics, some of which consist of subtopics.
EdInstruments presents particulars on the targeted grade levels, languages, administration, length, price, training and qualifications, scoring, and referencing for each instrument. It also includes links to free and publicly available information about the validity and reliability of each instrument as well as peer-reviewed studies using the instrument. EdInstruments does not offer evaluations of the instruments’ validity, reliability, or comprehensiveness, and is not affiliated with any publishers. Users can filter searches by domain, topic, subtopic, scoring, open access, and referencing.
Annenberg is still developing and adding to EdInstruments. To suggest new instruments to include in the repository, please fill out this form. To comment on an existing instrument in the repository or to make general inquiries, please click here.
