On November 14, 2014, AISR executive director Warren Simmons delivered the keynote address at the College Crusade of Rhode Island’s “Believe Breakfast” and 25th anniversary celebration. The not-for-profit organization was established to reduce high school dropout rates and increase educational and career success for low-income urban youth in the Ocean State. Each year, it serves approximately 3,900 students from the most economically disadvantaged families in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket, and Cranston, who then attend college at much higher rates than other students in the state’s urban school districts. Since 2001, it has awarded over $30 million in college scholarships to more than 3,800 high school graduates. Dr. Simmons is vice chair of the College Crusade’s board of directors.
