What We Do: Research and Policy

The Institute conducts knowledge – and tool – generating research to develop and promote the concept of smart education systems. The aim is to deepen and broaden our understanding of the foundational dimensions of an SES and to build the case for a comprehensive education system that is able to provide high-quality learning experiences for all students in all the places where they learn.

Focusing in particular on the roles of district and community and the ways in which they interact, the Institute’s research projects include long-term data and issue analysis and development of processes and tools to support school district and community education improvement efforts. The ultimate goal is to promote a vision of an education system characterized by results and equity at scale.
